Dune: Messiah officially has an update on when production is set to start for the third entry in Denis Villeneuve’s sci-fi trilogy.
When is Dune: Messiah going to start filming?
According to a new report from Deadline, Dune: Messiah’s filming start date is set for the summer, with pre-production already underway for the next entry in the franchise. Deadline notes that the “summer is the aim” for when things will start, with the biggest hurdle being making sure all the talent availability is ready by then.
Dune: Messiah will be based on the novel of the same name by Frank Herbert, released as the second book in the Dune series in 1969. The novel follows the original book and chronicles Paul “Maud’Dib” Atreides in the years following his ascent to Emperor and what happens after he accepts his role as the messiah to the Fremen.
While no official casting information is available, it’s likely that Dune: Messiah will be bringing back most of the starring cast of Dune: Part Two, including Timothée Chalamet, Zendaya, Rebecca Ferguson, Josh Brolin, Florence Pugh, and more.
Dune: Part Two was released in March 2024 and was a critical and commercial success. The film earned more than $700 million at the global box office and received five Academy Award nominations, including Best Picture, Best Cinematography, Best Production Design, Best Sound, and Best Visual Effects.
