Warner Bros. has finally announced the Queer release date on Max for A24’s latest period romance drama starring Daniel Craig and Drew Starkey. For his performance as William Lee, Craig earned a Golden Globe nomination for Best Actor. He is currently nominated for Outstanding Performance by Male Actor in a Leading Role at the upcoming 2025 SAG Awards.
“Set in 1940s Mexico City, it follows William Lee who has fled from a drug bust in New Orleans. In Mexico City, Lee wanders around the city’s clubs and becomes infatuated with drug user Eugune Allerton, a discharged American Navy serviceman,” reads the synopsis.
When is the Queer Max release date?
Queer will be available for streaming starting on Friday, March 28, exclusively on Max. It will then be followed by its broadcast debut on HBO on Saturday, March 29. During its theatrical run, the film received a Certified Fresh rating of 77% on Rotten Tomatoes.
Queer was directed and produced by Luca Guadagnino from a screenplay written by Challengers scribe Justin Kuritzkes, based on William S. Burroughs’ 1985 novel of the same name. The film also stars Jason Schwartzman, Lesley Manville, Henry Zaga, Drew Droege, Ariel Schulman, Colin Bates, Omar Apollo, Ronia Ava, and more. It was produced by Lorenzo Mieli, with Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross providing the score.
After Queer, Guadagnino is now working on another star-studded project, a thriller movie titled After the Hunt. It will be led by Julia Roberts, Ayo Edebiri, Andrew Garlfield, Michael Stuhlbarg, and Chloe Sevigny. Meanwhile, Craig will also next be seen in Netflix’s Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery, where he’ll be reprising his role as detective Benoit Blanc. As for Starkey, he recently reprised his role as Rafe Cameron in the latest season of Netflix’s Outer Banks series.
