Academy Award winner Kate Winslet is finally making her feature directorial debut with Netflix‘s upcoming family drama titled, Goodbye June. In addition, Winslet has also signed on to lead the cast and produce the movie, which is expected to start its production later this year in the U.K.
“Set in present-day England, the movie revolves around a fractured group of siblings pull together under sudden and trying circumstances,” reads the initial synopsis.
Who is involved in Goodbye June?
Goodbye June will also star Helen Mirren (The Queen), Toni Collette (Hereditary), Johnny Flynn (Emma), Andrea Riseborough (To Leslie), and Timothy Spall (Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince). Winslet will be directing from a screenplay written by Winslet’s son Joe Anders, who previously starred in the 2019 war drama 1917, and 2023’s music rom-com movie Bonus Track. The film is produced by Kate Solomon. It is a production by Working Title, who are also set to serve as executive producers.
This marks Winslet and Anders’ latest collaboration together, after starring together in the 2023 biopic Lee. They are both set to star in Netflix’s upcoming limited drama series East of Eden from Zoe Kazan and Garth Davis. At the moment, it is still currently in production. Besides Goodbye June, she will next be seen in James Cameron’s Avatar: Fire and Ash, where she’ll reprise her role form 2022’s The Way of Water. Her most recent project was leading last year’s HBO miniseries The Regime, where she played chancellor Elena Vernham.
