Benedict Cumberbatch has been cast in Cary Fukunaga’s Blood on Snow movie.
Fukunaga is known for directing 2011’s Jane Eyre, 2015’s Beasts of No Nation, and 2021’s No Time to Die, among other titles. He’s now working on a new crime thriller, Blood on Snow, which is an adaptation of Jo Nesbø’s 2015 novel of the same name.
Per The Hollywood Reporter, Cumberbatch has now been in the movie. He replaces Tom Hardy, who had to step away from the project due to scheduling conflicts.
Known for playing Doctor Strange in the Marvel Cinematic and Sherlock Holmes on the hit BBC television series, Cumberbatch recently starred in Netflix’s Eric miniseries, which was released in 2024. He also had a minor role in 2024’s The Book of Clarence, while he also stars in Dylan Southern’s The Thing with Feathers, which premiered at the Sundance Film Festival last month.
What else do we know about Blood on Snow?
Along with Cumberbatch, Blood on Snow stars Aaron Taylor-Johnson (Nosferatu, Kraven the Hunter), Eva Green (Casino Royale, Dark Shadows), Emma Laird (Mayor of Kingstown, The Brutalist), and Ben Mendelsohn (Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, Captain Marvel).
“Taylor-Johnson is starring a hit man/fixer named Olav who is hired by his mob boss to kill the man’s cheating wife,” The Hollywood Reporter’s description of the movie reads. “After Olav convinces himself he’s fallen in love with the wife and doesn’t kill her, it sets off a chain of events with tragic consequences that threaten a bloody mob war.”
Cumberbatch is believed to be playing a rival mob boss named the Fisherman in Blood on Snow.
Nesbø wrote the script alongside Ben Powers. Fukunaga and Nesbø are both producing the movie alongside Mike Larocca, Michael Schaefer, Tracey Seaward, Niclas Salomonsson, and Dean Baker.
