Cape Fear Cast: Patrick Wilson Eyed to Star in Apple TV+ Show

The Conjuring star Patrick Wilson has entered early negotiations to join the Cape Fear cast for Apple TV+’s high-profile series adaptation of John D. MacDonald’s 1957 suspense thriller novel The Executioners. The project hails Oscar-winning filmmakers Martin Scorsese and Steven Spielberg, who are set to serve as executive producers.

“It is described as a tense, Hitchcockian thriller and an examination of America’s obsession with true crime in the 21st century,” reads the official synopsis. “In the series, a storm is coming for happily married attorneys Amanda and Steve Bowden when Max Cady, a notorious killer from their past, gets out of prison.

Who else is in the Cape Fear cast?

Cape Fear will also be led by Golden Globe winners Amy Adams (American Hustle) as Anna and Javier Bardem (No Country for Old Men) as Max Cady. Meanwhile, should Wilson’s deal get finalized, he would portray the role of Tom Bowden, Anna’s husband. The 10-episode series is created and executive produced by Nick Antosca, who is also set as a showrunner.

Besides Antosca, Spielberg, and Scorsese, the show will also be executive produced by Alex Hedlund, Daryl Frank, and Justin Falvey, with UCP producing. Production is expected to begin sometime this year. This marks the first time the original novel will be adapted into a TV show after receiving film adaptations in 1962 and 1991, with Scorsese directing the latter version. At the moment, the project currently has no official release date yet.

Prior to casting in Cape Fear, Wilson had just recently wrapped up production on the final installment of the main Conjuring film franchise titled, Last Rites. For the last time, fans will get to see Wilson and Vera Farmiga portray the respective roles of Ed and Lorraine Warren when the horror sequel arrives in theaters on September 5, 2025. He is also currently attached to star in the coming-of-age drama movie Jay Kelly with George Clooney.
