ComingSoon can exclusively reveal that The Closer vets Tony Denison and Mary McDonell have been tapped to star in the upcoming crime drama movie Trouble Man. This marks Denison and McDonell’s latest collaboration after working together in the Kyra Sedgwick-led police procedural series and its spin-off, Major Crimes. Both shows lasted for multiple seasons.
What is the Trouble Man about?
“Set against the backdrop of mid-century modern Palm Springs and big city LA, the film revolves around a dying hitman who forces a down-and-out Hollywood producer to film his deadly secret while the mafia, the law, his best friend, and his own daughter try to stop him,” reads the film’s official synopsis.
Trouble Man is written by Denison and Jack Maxwell. The cast will also include Stana Katic (Castle, Absentia, CBGB), Dan Lauria (The Wonder Years, Reagan), Mike Starr (Goodfellas, Dumb and Dumber), Joe Pacheco (The Morning Show) and Maxwell (Booze Traveler, Lost). Production is expected to begin later this year. It hails from Trouble Man Productions, LLC.
“Trouble Man is a story that has resonated with Tony and me for quite some time,” Maxwell said in a statement, “We’re eager to share it.”
Besides The Closer and Major Crimes, Denison also appeared in other crime drama shows, including Crime Story, Wiseguy, Criminal Minds, and Prison Break. His most recent acting project was portraying the role of Vic Callan in CBS’ legal drama series All Rise. Meanwhile, McDonell is best known for her Oscar-nominated performances in 1990’s Dances With Wolves and 1992’s Passion Fish. Her most recent role was playing Madeline Usher in Mike Flanagan’s Netflix horror miniseries The Fall of the House of Usher.
