The Dark Knight Rises Talia Actor Says She ‘Screwed Up’ Death Scene

Marion Cotillard, who won the Academy Award for Best Actress for her outing as Édith Piaf in La Vie en Rose (2007), portrayed Miranda Tate / Talia al Ghul in 2012’s The Dark Knight Rises. While the movie was a commercial and critical success, some aspects of it did receive some criticism. This includes Talia al Ghul’s death scene toward the end of the movie. In a new interview, Cotillard looked back on the sequence and how it was filmed, admitting that she messed it up.

Marion Cotillard says she ‘screwed up’ The Dark Knight Rises’ death scene

The French actress reflected on Talia al Ghul’s death scene in The Dark Knight Rises in a new interview.

Speaking to Les rencontres du Papotin, Marion Cottilard admitted that she didn’t “nail that scene.” She added, “I didn’t find the right position. I didn’t find the right way… I was stressed. Sometimes it happens that you screw something up. So that, I screwed up.”

This is not the first time that Cotillard has spoken about the scene. While speaking to Allociné, she said, “Sometimes there are failures, and when you see this on screen, you’re thinking: ‘Why? Why did they keep that take?’ But either you blame everyone or nobody.” The Inception star said that she felt people were overreacting as “it was tough to be identified just with this scene.”

Notably, The Dark Knight Rises is the third and final entry in Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight trilogy. It was preceded by Batman Begins (2005) and The Dark Knight (2008). Set eight years after the events of the second movie, The Dark Knight Rises revolves around a now-retired Bruce Wayne (Christian Bale). He is forced to take up the Batman mantle again due to the arrival of Bane (Tom Hardy) in Gotham City.

Meanwhile, Cotillard’s character is initially introduced as Miranda Tate, the current CEO of Wayne Enterprise. However, she is later revealed to be Talia al Ghul, the daughter of Liam Neeson’s Ra’s al Ghul.

In the climactic scene of The Dark Knight Rises, Talia is killed but not before she ensures that a neutron bomb will detonate in Gotham. Eventually, Batman flies the bomb out of the city and seemingly sacrifices himself. Albeit, the ending of the movie reveals that he is still alive.
