Guardians of the Galaxy and Knock at the Cabin star Dave Bautista is set to lead the dystopian sci-fi thriller Dreadnought, which hails from John Wick producers.
Dreadnought marks Bautista’s reunion with Bushwick directors Jonathan Milott and Cary Murnion. In addition to starring, Bautista will also serve as one of the project’s producers alongside Ashley Daniels under the Dogbone Entertainment banner. Additional producers include Thunder Road’s Basil Iwanyk and Erica Lee and Beyond The Frame’s Jason Ross Jallet, Andrew Bronfman, and Jonathan Bronfman, with Elevation Pictures’ Noah Segal executive producing.
What is Dreadnought about?
Dreadnought, penned by Joseph Greenberg, will follow Max (set to be played by Bautista), who will stop at nothing to save his dying daughter from aliens that have stolen much of mankind. The plot description (courtesy of Deadline) reads as follows:
“Max (Bautista), whose world was devastated when an alien species crash-landed on Earth, unleashing a deadly plague that claimed his wife and much of humanity. In the fragile society that remains, humans have learned to coexist with their extraterrestrial invaders. But for Max, survival isn’t enough,” the description reads.
“His older daughter, Greta, is dying from the disease. As her body weakens, an alien Sentinel lurks outside their home, drawing nearer and nearer as Greta takes her final breaths. This silent, unyielding predator is on a mission to collect her body to fulfill an unstoppable metamorphosis ritual. The government sanctions it. Society accepts it. But Max refuses to have anything else taken from him.”
Bautista is a retired professional wrestler, known for his appearances in WWE. He then pursued an acting career and has starred in various acclaimed features like Blade Runner 2049, Final Score, Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery, Dune, and Dune: Part Two.
The actor also starred as Drax the Destroyer in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, including in the three Guardians of the Galaxy movies, Avengers: Infinity War, Avengers: Endgame, and Thor: Love and Thunder.
Other details about Dreadnought remain under wraps.
