Critics aren’t impressed with Love Hurts in their reviews

Love Hurts has received mixed reviews, with many critics praising its action but criticizing its story and character development.

The screenplay of Love Hurts has been widely criticized as “lazy” and “borderline terrible.” Jonathan Sim from ComingSoon described it as a “mediocre take on a story we’ve seen a million times before.” Despite the weak writing, he acknowledged the “incredible physicality” that Ke Huy Quan brings to the fight scenes. Sim ultimately rated the film 5/10, calling it “Mediocre.”

Ben Wasserman from CBR highlighted that Quan’s performance is a standout, making a strong case for more leading roles but calls the rest of the film a “mixed bag.” On the other hand, Tasha Robinson from Polygon praised the “stunning fight sequences” but found the non-action scenes to be “a drag.”

Critics widely criticized the romance, with Alonso Duralde from The Film Verdict noting the lack of chemistry between the leads, while James Verniere from Boston Movie News wrote, “Quan and DeBose have zero chemistry as Valentine’s Day lovers.”
