X-Men MCU Movie Gets Release Date Window Update, Casting Timeframe

A production window for Marvel StudiosX-Men movie has reportedly been revealed.

With Phase Six of the MCU marking the end of “The Multiverse Saga,” Marvel is now beginning to turn its attention to the X-Men. In May 2024, Deadline reported that Michael Lesslie was in negotiations to write the upcoming MCU X-Men movie.

There’s been little news about the project since then, apart from a flurry of casting rumors and theories about when the X-Men will be officially introduced.

Now, according to Jeff Sneider of The InSneider, it appears that official casting news for the X-Men movie may be coming sooner rather than later.

Sneider wrote on X, “I’m now hearing X-Men will begin shooting next year for a 2027 release. That means official casting news likely coming in the next few months…along with a director announcement. Have a feeling that CinemaCon is gonna be nuts this year!”

What else do we know about Marvel’s X-Men movie?

The news comes shortly after Sneider reported on The InSneider that Freakier Friday star Julia Butters is being eyed to play Kitty Pryde in Marvel’s X-Men movie, though this has not been officially confirmed at this time as Marvel has not yet commented on the matter.

Additionally, Sneider reported that Stranger Things’ Sadie Sink and Babygirl’s Harris Dickinson are being eyed to play Jean Grey and Scott Summers in the MCU. This has also not yet been officially confirmed.

CinemaCon is being held from March 31 through April 3, 2025, this year, should that be the venue where Marvel decides to make some X-Men announcements.

For now, the only MCU film that has an official 2027 release date is Avengers: Secret Wars, which arrives on May 7. Prior to that, Marvel will release Captain America: Brave New World on February 14, 2025; Thunderbolts* on May 2, 2025; The Fantastic Four: First Steps on July 25, 2025; Avengers: Doomsday on May 1, 2026; and Spider-Man 4 on July 24, 2026.
