Heart Eyes Reviews Lead to Impressive Rotten Tomatoes Score

Heart Eyes is a slasher feature, slated to debut in U.S. theaters on February 7, 2025. The plot reportedly follows a pair of co-workers erroneously presumed to be a romantic couple by the eponymous Heart Eyes Killer, who starts hunting them on the night of Valentine’s Day. The initial reactions to the movie are coming in, and they are significantly positive, leading to an impressive score on Rotten Tomatoes.

Heart Eyes reviews call it ‘a very entertaining ride’

Aidan Kelley of Collider observes that Heart Eyes tries to be both a slasher and a lighthearted romantic comedy, but its use of clichés of both genres stops it “from hitting a bullseye in that respect. However, Kelley adds, “It still lands close enough to the center to be a very entertaining ride from start to finish.”

Variety’s Courtney Howard praises the movie for being “thoroughly self-aware…stocked with self-reflexive gags and gorily-orchestrated kills.” For Howard, the genre mashup is “endearing with its delightfully zippy charms.”

Frank Scheck of The Hollywood Reporter lauds director Josh Ruben and the rest of the team behind Heart Eyes by noting that their “obvious affinity for the genre comes through in every frame of the film, and to their credit Heart Eyes includes many clever touches.”

According to A.A. Dowd of IGN, Heart Eyes may not be “nearly as clever as the best entries in that ongoing horror juggernaut,” but it comes with its share of fun elements, “from the sincerity of the lead performances to the cartoonish gore offered by Werewolves Within director Josh [Ruben].”

Bloody Disgusting’s Meagan Navarro also praises Ruben for giving “romance and horror equal weight in this seamless fusion” of genres.

Heart Eyes scores high on Rotten Tomatoes

Heart Eyes has an approval rating of 93% on review aggregating site Rotten Tomatoes after 41 reviews. As the release date approaches, these numbers will change, but we can safely presume, given how high the score is, that Heart Eyes will most likely remain certified fresh.
