Ant-Man star Corey Stoll has joined the cast of Apple Original Films’ Matchbox.
Stoll is known for playing Darren Cross/Yellowjacket/M.O.D.O.K in Marvel studios’ Ant-Man films, while he additionally played Peter Russo in Netflix’s House of Cards and Bobby Axelrod in Showtime’s Billions.
Now, per Deadline, Stoll will be playing an undisclosed character in Matchbox, a new film inspired by Mattel’s toy vehicle line of the same name.
What else do we know about Apple’s Matchbox movie?
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Matchbox is an “action-packed, globetrotting adventure” that “centers on a group of childhood friends who must work together to stop an impending worldwide disaster and rediscover their friendship along the way.” Further plot details remain under wraps.
Along with Stoll, Matchbox, which comes from Skydance and Mattel Films, will star John Cena (Peacemaker, Fast X), Jessica Biel (The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Blade: Trinity), Sam Richardson (Werewolves Within, Detroiters), Teyonah Parris (The Marvels, They Cloned Tyrone), Arturo Castro (Broad City), and Danai Gurira (The Walking Dead).
The movie is directed by Sam Hargrave, who is known for making 2020’s Extraction and the 2023 sequel Extraction 2. The script comes from David Coggeshall and Jonathan Tropper, while David Ellison, Dana Goldberg, Don Granger, Robbie Brenner, and Jules Daly serve as producers.
Along with the aforementioned television titles, Stoll has starred in shows such as NCIS, Law & Order: LA, The Strain, Girls, The Deuce, Transatlantic, and more.
His filmography further includes titles such as 2006’s Lucky Number Slevin, 2010’s Salt, 2012’s The Bourne Legacy, 2014’s Non-Stop, 2014’s This Is Where I Leave You, 2015’s Black Mass, 2018’s First Man, 2019’s The Report, 2021’s The Many Saints of Newark, 2021’s West Side Stop, and 2023’s Rebel Moon. He most recently voiced Lex Luthor in 2024’s Justice League: Crisis on Infinite Earths — Part Three.
A release date for Matchbox has not yet been announced by Apple Original Films.
