Anthony Mackie says he’ll be in Avengers 5, 6 and possibly Captain America 5
Anthony Mackie has outlined his expected tenure as Captain America in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), stating, “I give it a solid ten years.”
In an interview with Esquire, Mackie detailed his potential roadmap in the franchise, explaining, “You have the two Avengers movies, you have hopefully another Captain America, and then random plug-and-plays: Oh, Spider-Man! Oh, Fantastic Four! What are you doing here?” He also emphasized his intention not to stay in the role indefinitely, adding, “I mean, I don’t want to be a sixty-year-old Captain America.”
Mackie debuted as Sam Wilson/Falcon in Captain America: The Winter Soldier (2014), quickly becoming a key ally of Steve Rogers. Over the next decade, he reprised his role in multiple films. In The Falcon and the Winter Soldier (2021), he officially took on the Captain America mantle. His first film as Captain America, Captain America: Brave New World, releases on February 14, 2025.
Anthony Mackie will appear in Avengers: Doomsday (2026) and Avengers: Secret Wars (2027), both major MCU installments. His role in these films, along with a potential fifth Captain America movie, will further establish him as a central figure in the franchise.
Despite his long-term involvement, Mackie acknowledged the physical demands of the role and his interest in other acting opportunities. He stated, “The expectations of what comes along with this role is something that nobody talks about. Nobody really acknowledges the mental jousting that takes place.”
While his tenure as Captain America remains planned for the next decade, Mackie has left open the possibility of passing the shield when the time is right.
