Critics call Drew Hancock’s Companion a ‘funny and clever thriller’
Companion, directed by Drew Hancock, follows a series of events that take place after android Iris, played by Sophie Thatcher, goes rogue. Prior to its release, critics expressed their opinions regarding the movie and couldn’t stop marveling over the WB production.
In his review, Eric Goldman of IGN Movies labeled the movie a “funny and clever thriller.” He added that it perfectly balances between “dark moments of violence and unsetting reveals with a disarming sense of humor.”
Linda Marric of HeyUGuys also lauded the movie by calling it “a sexy, chaotic mess.” She also stated that Companion “will leave you questioning everything, especially your own relationships.”
IndieWire‘s Christian Zilko didn’t hold back from appreciating director Hancock for Companion’s “sleek visuals, smooth pacing, and twisty script” in his review. In addition to this, he made a special mention of Thatcher, stating that viewers will enjoy her “uncanny performance as an android who borders on humanity without ever crossing the threshold.”
Companion starts with extremely solid Rotten Tomatoes and Metacritic Scores
Companion has earned solid scores on Rotten Tomatoes and Metacritic. On Rotten Tomatoes, the movie boasts an impressive 94 percent rating, based on 85 reviews. Additionally, on Metacritic, Companion holds a score of 76, based on 20 reviews, which is considered “Generally Favorable.”
According to Variety‘s report, Companion is looking to collect around $8-10 million domestically in its opening weekend, as per box office predictions.
