Parasite, an award-winning black comedy from acclaimed South Korean filmmaker Bong Joon-ho, is coming back to theaters with an exclusive IMAX release this February.
Parasite received critical acclaim upon its release in 2019 and became the first non-English language feature to ever win an Academy Award for Best Picture. It starred Song Kang-ho (A Taxi Driver), Choi Woo-shik (A Killer Paradox), Park So-dam (Record of Youth), Jang Hye-jin (More Than Family), Lee Sun-kyun (Project Silence), Cho Yeo-jeong (The Servant), and more.
When is the Parasite IMAX rerelease date?
To celebrate Parasite’s fifth anniversary since its initial release, NEON is set to bring the acclaimed feature back to cinemas with an exclusive IMAX release starting February 7. The 2019 film is just an addition to Bong’s already extensive list of critically acclaimed features, including Barking Dogs Never Bite (2000), Memories of Murder (2003), The Host (2006), Mother (2009), Snowpiercer (2013), Okja (2017). The director’s next project is the sci-fi black comedy Mickey 17 starring Robert Pattinson. It is set for theatrical release on March 7.
Parasite earned a total of four Academy Awards, such as Best Picture, Best Director, Best Original Screenplay, and Best International Feature Film.
The synopsis reads: “Meet the Park Family: the picture of aspirational wealth. And the Kim Family, rich in street smarts but not much else. Be it chance or fate, these two houses are brought together and the Kims sense a golden opportunity. Masterminded by college-aged Ki-woo, the Kim children expediently install themselves as tutor and art therapist, to the Parks. Soon, a symbiotic relationship forms between the two families. The Kims provide ‘indispensable’ luxury services while the Parks obliviously bankroll their entire household. When a parasitic interloper threatens the Kims’ newfound comfort, a savage, underhanded battle for dominance breaks out, threatening to destroy the fragile ecosystem between the Kims and the Parks.”
