Godzilla x Kong 2 Adds The Last of Us’ Kaitlyn Dever to Sequel’s Cast

Kaitlyn Dever has joined the cast of Godzilla x Kong 2.

Legendary is currently working on a new MonsterVerse movie that will serve as a sequel to 2024’s Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire. Plot details remain under wraps at this time, but both Godzilla and Kong are believed to be fronting the film.

Per Deadline, Dever has now joined the cast of the movie, which is being directed by Grant Sputore (I Am Mother). It’s unclear who Dever will be playing in the film at this time.

Dever will soon be seen playing Abby in HBO’s The Last of Us Season 2, which will premiere later this year. She has also been in television shows such as Justified, Last Man Standing, Unbelievable, Monsterland, and Dopesick.

Dever’s filmography includes 2011’s J. Edgar, 2013’s The Spectacular Now, 2013’s Short Term 12, 2014’s Laggies, 2017’s Detroit, 2018’s The Front Runner, 2018’s Beautiful Boy, 2019’s Them That Follow, 2019’s Booksmart, 2021’s Dear Evan Hansen, 2022’s Ticket to Paradise, and 2024’s No One Will Save You, among other titles.

What else do we know about Godzilla x Kong 2?

Godzilla x Kong 2 will be released in United States theaters on March 26, 2027.

No other casting beyond Dever has been announced for the film; however, Deadline notes that “several new human characters” are expected to be introduced in the film.

Legendary’s MonsterVerse franchise began in 2014 with Gareth Edwards’ Godzilla. That was followed by 2017’s Kong: Skull Island, 2019’s Godzilla: King of the Monsters, and Godzilla vs. Kong before Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire then arrived in March of last year. There was also an animated Skull Island show that premiered on Netflix in 2023 as well as Apple TV+’s Monarch: Legacy of Monsters, which has been renewed for a second season.
