The Legend of Ochi Release Date Delayed for A24 Movie After Director Loses Home

The release date for A24’s The Legend of Ochi has been delayed as director Isaiah Saxon has lost his house in the Los Angeles wildfires.

The Legend of Ochi was originally supposed to be released in United States theaters on February 28, 2025. The film stars Helena Zengel (News of the World), Willem Dafoe (Nosferatu), Finn Wolfhard (Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire), and Emily Watson (Dune: Prophecy).

Per Deadline, A24 has now bumped the release date of The Legend of Ochi back by about two months.

When is the new release date for The Legend of Ochi?

The Legend of Ochi will now be released in theaters on April 25, 2025. It will first premiere at the Sundance Film Festival, as was originally scheduled, on Sunday, January 26, 2025.

Saxon posted on X earlier this month, “We lost our home, our whole street, most of our town. Ashes to ashes dust to dust.” He wrote in another post, “Altadena was the best place I’ve ever lived. An innocent and magical and above all else beautiful town. From another time. And it’s all gone.”

The Legend of Ochi is Saxon’s feature film directorial debut. Saxon also wrote the screenplay for the fantasy adventure film and produces it alongside Richard Peete, Traci Carlson, and Jonathan Wang.

“In a remote village on the island of Carpathia, a shy farm girl named Yuri is raised to fear an elusive animal species known as ochi,” the synopsis for the film reads. “But when Yuri discovers a wounded baby ochi has been left behind, she escapes on a quest to bring him home.”
