Deadpool & Wolverine’s absence from the list of nominations for the 97th Academy Awards has created a stir on social media. Many fans were anticipating the movie to be nominated in the Best Visual Effects category, but with the announcement they were left shocked and disappointed.

The Deadpool and Wolverine Oscar snub has broken Marvel’s streak of consecutive nominations in the VFX category over the past 10 years. The movies that were announced as nominees for the award are: Wicked, Dune: Part Two, Better Man, The Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes, and Alien: Romulus.

Following the announcement, many fans took to the internet to express their disappointment in the film not being nominated.

One fan noted their sadness at seeing Matthew Macfadyen’s co-stars from Succession, Jeremy Strong and Kieran Culkin, both get Oscar nominations for Best Supporting Actor while Macfadyen wasn’t nominated.

Another user replied to a different post from @bluerayangel to say that they also considered Jackman’s performance as Wolverine to be “Oscar worthy” also replying, “1000000000…000000000000% SNUBBED! Hugh Jackman’s Deadpool and Wolverine performance was perfect!”

Another user criticized the Academy for not nominating Hugh Jackman. They asserted that he “put his heart and soul into playing Wolverine.” They also noted the power that Jackman’s “car monologue” in the film had over the audience in multiple screenings.

Another user highlighted Deadpool & Wolverine’s record-breaking success at the box office as an R-rated movie. They also claimed that the movie’s exclusion from the Oscars race was a stain on the entire award season.
