Vin Diesel has recently announced that the highly anticipated Fast X: Part 2 will finish the rest of its filming in Los Angeles, in an effort to provide help to the local economy after the wildfires.
What did Vin Diesel say about Fast X: Part 2?
In an Instagram post confirming the news, Diesel said that he was reached out to by fellow Fast and Furious cast member Jordana Brewster, who was the one who came up with the idea. As a result, Diesel said the franchise will “finally return home” to where they started filming decades ago.
“Last week, during the fires that displaced LA, my sister Jordana reached out to me and said Please have Universal film the rest of Fast X Part 2 in LA,” said Diesel in his post. “Los Angeles needs it now more than ever. Los Angeles is where Fast and Furious started filming 25 years ago… and now Fast will finally return home. All love…”
Fast X Part 2 is being directed by Louis Leterrier, who also directed 2023’s Fast X. While Fast X was initially going to kick off a new trilogy of Fast and Furious films, Diesel confirmed in February 2024 that Fast X Part 2 will be a “grand finale.”
There have been reports that Fast X Part 2 may be a “throwback” to the original Fast and Furious movie and that it could feature a different villain rather than Jason Momoa’s Dante, though the exact nature of the plot remains unclear at this time.
Fast X was released in United States theaters in May 2023. It made approximately $714 million at the global box office off an estimated $378.8 million budget.
Along with Diesel, Fast X stars Michelle Rodriguez as Letty Ortiz, Tyrese Gibson as Roman Pearce, Ludacris as Tej Parker, John Cena as Jakob Toretto, Nathalie Emmanuel as Ramsey, Jordana Brewster as Mia Toretto, Sung Kang as Han Lue, Scott Eastwood as Little Nobody, Daniela Melchior as Isabel Neves, Alan Ritchson as Aimes, Helen Mirren as Magdalene Ellmanson-Shaw, Brie Larson as Tess, Rita Moreno as Abuelita Toretto, Jason Statham as Deckard Shaw, Charlize Theron as Cipher, and Momoa as Reyes.
Fast X is currently streaming on Prime Video. Fast X Part 2 is expected to be released in 2026.
