GKIDS announced on Friday they have acquired the theatrical rights for the North American release of Mobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuuX -Beginning-, and set its official release date for next month.
When is the Mobile Suit GQuuuuuuX -Beginning- release date?
The Mobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuuX -Beginning- release date has been set for February 28, 2025, when the the highly anticipated project arrives. The film is set to be the first-ever major collaboration between Evangelion creator Hideaki Anno’s Studio Khara and Sunrise, the studio behind Mobile Suit Gundam.
The movie is directed by Kazuya Tsurumaki, known for his work on the Evangelion series and the FLCL anime series. The script for the movie is written by Yoji Enokido, with Hideaki Anno also credited on the screenplay as well.
The movie is made using re-edited episodes from the upcoming series Mobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuuX, and was released in Japan on January 17, 2025.
“Amate Yuzuriha is a high-school student living peacefully in a space colony floating in outer space,” reads the film’s official synopsis. “When she meets a war refugee named Nyaan, Amate is drawn into the illegal mobile suit dueling sport known as Clan Battle. Under the entry name “Machu,” she throws herself into fierce battle day after day, piloting the GQuuuuuuX. Then an unidentified Gundam mobile suit pursued by both the space force and the police appears before her, along with its pilot, a boy named Shuji. Now their world is about to enter a new era.”
