The Penguin Lessons Release Date Set for Steve Coogan Movie

Sony Pictures Classics has officially announced The Penguin Lessons release date for the upcoming comedy drama movie led by Oscar nominee Steve Coogan (Philomena, The Reckoning). Prior to its theatrical debut, the film first had its world premiere at last year’s Toronto International Film Festival.

“The film inspired by the true story of a disillusioned Englishman who went to work in a school in Argentina in 1976,” reads the official synopsis. “Expecting an easy ride, Tom discovers a divided nation and a class of unteachable students. However, after he rescues a penguin from an oil-slicked beach, his life is turned upside-down.”

When is The Penguin Lessons release date?

The Penguin Lessons is scheduled to arrive in theaters on March 28, 2025. Its release will pit the film directly against Focus Features’ comedy The Ballad of Wallis Island, Univeral Pictures’ horror thriller The Woman in the Yard, along with A24’s horror comedy Death of a Unicorn.

The film is directed by Oscar nominee Peter Cattaneo (The Full Monty) from a screenplay written by BAFTA winner scribe Jeff Pope (Stan & Ollie, The Lost King), based on the 2016 memoir by Tom Mitchell. The cast includes Coogan as Tom Michel, Jonathan Pryce (The Two Popes, The Crown), Vivian El Jaber (Guapas), Björn Gustafsson (Spy), Alfonsina Carrocio (Society of the Snow), and more.

It is executive produced by Coogan, Michell, Joshua Horsfield, Elizabeth Kormanova, Richard Mansell, Jeff Popo, Josh Varney, and Nia Vazirani, with Rory Aitken, Adrian Guerra, Andrew Noble, Ben Pugh, and Robert Walak set as producers.
