Scream 7 Cast Adds Joel McHale & Jasmin Savoy Brown to Horror Franchise

Update 1/16/2025: Per Deadline, Jasmin Savoy Brown will return as Mindy Meeks-Martin in Scream 7. Brown’s Mindy was previously featured in 2022’s Scream and 2023’s Scream VI.

The Scream 7 cast continues to grow, with Deadline reporting that Joel McHale is set to join the horror project.

McHale will play the role of Mark Evans, the husband of Neve Campbell’s Sidney Prescott. That rounds out the Prescott family with series newcomer Isabel May set to play the role of Prescott’s daughter.

McHale is best known for his work in the world of comedy, having starred on the NBC sitcom Community and also hosting the E! news show The Soup for 11 years from 2004-2015. McHale has dabbled in the world of horror before, however, having appeared in 2014’s Deliver Us from Evil as well as 2023’s It’s a Wonderful Knife. Most recently, he starred in the Fox comedy series Animal Control.

Who else is in the Scream 7 cast?

Information about the upcoming movie is being kept under wraps as of now, but McHale will join a cast that continues to grow. Alongside McHale and Campbell, Scream 7 will also see the return of Courteney Cox to the franchise, as she reprises her role of Gale Weathers.

Mason Gooding is also set to return to the franchise as Chad Meeks-Martin. 1883 star Isabela May has also signed on to the project to play the role of Sidney Prescott’s daughter. McKenna GraceAsa GermannSam RechnerCeleste O’Connor, and Anna Camp have all also joined the cast of the film.

The path to Scream 7 has been a bit of a rocky one. Earlier this year, Spyglass Media Group fired Melissa Barrera from the franchise for speaking out against the Israel and Palestine conflict. Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter, Barrera recalled what a tough time it was in the moment.

“It’s definitely hard, because I was just in such a cloudy state of mind, but I was very fortunate,” said Barrera. “I had a lot of support from the people around me: my team and specifically my publicists — they just carried me.”

Shortly after Barrera was fired, Jenna Ortega also reportedly dropped out of Scream 7 before Christopher Landon announced he’d no longer be directing the film in December 2023. As a result, the upcoming project will be directed by Kevin Williamson, who wrote the screenplay for the original Scream and its sequel.
