Succession’s Jesse Armstrong has found his next project.
Armstrong is known for creating Succession, the popular HBO series starring Jeremy Strong, Kieran Culkin, and Sarah Snook. He has also worked on the screenplays for movies such as 2009’s In the Loop, 2010’s Four Lions, 2019’s The Day Shall Come, and 2020’s Downhill.
Per Deadline, Armstrong is now working with executive producer Frank Rich on a new HBO movie that focuses on “four friends who meet up during the turmoil of an ongoing international financial crisis.”

Further plot details remain under wraps. Production is expected to begin in 2025.
Armstrong is writing the script for the movie, which does not yet have a title. No casting has been announced, though Deadline’s article notes that actors’ availabilities are now being checked.
Succession premiered on HBO in June 2018. It ran for four seasons, with the series finale airing in 2023. Strong, Culkin, and Snook respectively play Kendall, Roman, and Shiv Roy in the show, while the cast also includes Brian Cox as Logan Roy, Nicholas Braun as Greg Hirsch, Matthew Macfadyen as Tom Wambsgans, Alan Ruck as Conor Roy, J. Smith-Cameron as Gerri Kellman, Peter Friedman as Frank Vernon, and more.
Armstrong has won a number of Primetime Emmy Awards for his work on Succession, including Outstanding Writing for a Drama Series in 2019, 2020, 2022, and 2023, and Outstanding Drama Series in 2020, 2022, and 2023.
Outside of Succession, Armstrong co-created British comedy shows Peep Show (2003-2015) and Fresh Meat (2011-2016) alongside Sam Bain. He has also written episodes of television series such as The Thick of It, That Mitchell and Webb Look, Dogface, and Black Mirror.
A release date for Armstrong’s HBO movie has not yet been announced by HBO.
