Severance’s Adam Scott on Returning for a Superhero Role After Madame Web

Adam Scott is known for a number of popular movies and TV shows such as the NBC mockumentary sitcom Parks and Recreation and the Apple TV+ sci-fi thriller series Severance. He also recently played Ben Parker, known to Spider-Man fans as Uncle Ben, in the superhero movie Madame Web. Released in 2024, the film was ultimately a critical and commercial failure. In a recent interview, Scott reflected on whether he would play a comic-book character again.

Severance’s Adam Scott says ‘never say never’ on playing another comic book role

Ben Parker, the character Adam Scott plays in Madame Web, is an important part of the narrative. He is a paramedic and the best friend and partner of Dakota Johnson’s main character, Cassandra Webb. Ben is also the brother-in-law of Emma Roberts’ Mary Parker, who is pregnant for most of the movie and gives birth to Peter Parker toward the end. Given the prominence of Uncle Ben, there have been some speculations on whether Scott would reprise the role. During an interview with ComicBook, Scott addressed the chances of him doing another project based on comic-book material.

“I don’t know. Never say never,” Scott said. “I’m not sure. I think that it’s a genre that I, certainly, as an audience member, participate in. I like seeing all those movies, I watch them all.”

Previously, Scott disclosed on Sirius XM’s Jess Cagle that he grew up in Santa Cruz, California, reading comic books, underscoring his love for the medium.

Madame Web has only an 11% critics rating on Rotten Tomatoes from 266 reviews and was a box office disappointment. Per The Hollywood Reporter, plans to develop a potential new franchise with Madame Web serving as its first movie have likely been scrapped after the movie’s failure.

Scott will next be appearing in the second season of the highly acclaimed streaming series Severance, which premieres on Apple TV+ this Friday, January 17.
