The first plot details for Toy Story 5 have been shared by Tim Allen.
Allen has voiced the Buzz Lightyear character in all four feature films set within Pixar’s Toy Story franchise. Toy Story 5 is now in the works and, in April 2024, it was announced that the movie will be released in June 2026.
While plot details have remained largely under wraps up until this point, Allen has now hinted that the Jessie character, voiced by Joan Cusack, will seemingly have a major role to play in Toy Story 5.
What did Tim Allen say about Toy Story 5?
Speaking on Good Morning America, Allen said, “Toy Story 5, I’ve already begun, I’m into the third act, now. It’s remarkable what they’ve done. Typically, with Pixar — they didn’t say I couldn’t say anything, but…There’s a lot of real intrigue with Buzz. Jesse’s got a big trouble, and she needs help. It’s a really cool thing.”
Allen also recently told Collider about the fifth Toy Story movie, “It’s a very, very clever story. Do you wanna do five of these? I don’t really believe it’s about the money. I’m sure they want it to be a success, but that’s not why they did it. Had they not come up with a brilliant script, they wouldn’t have done it and they wouldn’t have called me and Tom [Hanks]. It’s really clever. It was really a struggle to get, and then maybe two hours in, I was doing Buzz. I’m so blessed to be Buzz Lightyear, to be honest. It’s gonna be fun. I think we’re a year out. I’ve gotten up to the third act. We’ll do the third act. And then, we’ll go back and clean it. And then, I’ll do it about five more times. It’s a really good story, guys. It’s really good.”
Written and directed by Andrew Stanton, Toy Story 5 will be released in United States theaters on June 19, 2026.
