Idris Elba Wants a Cyberpunk 2077 Movie With Keanu Reeves

With the release date of Sonic the Hedgehog 3 fast approaching, actor Idris Elba has come out to express his desire to reunite with Keanu Reeves on a Cyberpunk 2077 movie. Elba joined the Cyberpunk video game franchise in 2023 as Soloman Reed, following the introduction of the Phantom Liberty pack. His voice acting in the game received much praise from fans and critics alike, opening up discussions of The Suicide Squad star’s appearance in a possible Cyberpunk film. In a recent interview, Elba shared his viewpoint on the possibilities of such a project.

Elba stated that a Cyberpunk 2077 movie would result in a worthy adaptation of its source material. The actor also mentioned that he believes that his and Reeves’ characters would both work in live-action.

Idris Elba provided his two cents on a potential Cyberpunk 2077 movie while talking to Screen Rant‘s Joe Deckelmeier. When asked if the actor would consider collaborating with Keanu Reeves again, Elba said, “I think if any film could do a live-action rendition, it could be [Cyberpunk 2077], and I think his character and my character together would be, ‘Whoa.’ So, let’s speak that into existence.”

In late 2023, CD Projekt Red, the creators of the Cyberpunk game, confirmed their deal with entertainment giants Anonymous Content to work on a feature-length live-action adaptation of the game. However, there have been little to no updates on the project since then. So far, fans of the franchise have only seen a series materialize in the form of Cyberpunk: Edgerunners. The animated series came out on Netflix in 2022, garnering positive reviews upon its release.

Despite CD Projekt Red’s agreement and Idris Elba’s encouraging words, the Cyberpunk 2077 live-action movie has yet to receive any official confirmation.
