Following the billion-dollar success of Top Gun: Maverick, Miles Teller is expected to return in Top Gun 3 alongside Tom Cruise. The film continues to be among the highly anticipated upcoming sequels. But ever since Maverick’s release in 2022, updates on Top Gun 3 and its filming have been scarce. Now, Teller has spoken briefly about the next film in the long-running trilogy.
Miles Teller’s new update suggests Top Gun 3’s filming won’t start soon
The actor is currently gearing up for his upcoming Apple TV+ film, The Gorge. During the promotions for the same, Miles Teller recently commented on what’s going on with Top Gun 3. He is eager to hear from Tom Cruise, who has only given him a glimpse of what comes next.
While talking to Collider’s Steve Weintraub at CCXP in São Paulo, Brazil, Teller said, “We’ll see what happens,” on the subject of Top Gun 3. He added:
“All I know is that Tom has said that, since he’s the first to know, he’ll give me enough time to get back into Top Gun shape. And that’s all I asked.”
Lastly, the Whiplash star concluded by confirming that everyone involved with the film is excited to return:
“But there’s a lot of excitement at both ends, from the fans and from the Top Gun team.”
While there’s no update on the release date or production window of Top Gun 3, Teller’s comment suggests that filming won’t start any time soon. He is yet to hear back from Cruise, and will likely spend a few months to get back in shape for the sequel once he does. Hence, it should be a while before Top Gun 3 goes into production.
As mentioned above, Miles Teller will soon be seen in The Gorge, which will be released on February 14, 2025. He will also appear in 2025’s Michael Jackson biopic and voice Gilbert in 2026’s The Ark and the Aardvark. Teller was a part of Eternity’s production as well, which has yet to receive a release date.
