David Harbour recently talked about the unusual dynamic shared by the team in Thunderbolts*. The upcoming Marvel Studios movie will open in theaters across the globe on May 2, 2025. Harbour has previously revealed that Thunderbolts* has been receiving good responses from the internal test screenings. Additionally, the actor lauded Marvel Studios for going a different direction with the movie and asserted it would pack a surprise for fans.
David Harbour explains the character dynamic of the Thunderbolts* team
The actor recently gave an interview, where he talked about the dynamic that the Thunderbolts* team shares on-screen. The trailer already gave a glimpse of the team going after each other in the movie. Now, David Harbour has also confirmed that the team isn’t fond of each other.
Harbour told Inverse, “I don’t know that any of ’em get along. They’re thrust together as the worst people in the worst situations.” The actor further added, “I think that’s the fun of the movie is that it’s the opposite of a love triangle. This person hates this person, hates this person, hates this person, and is annoyed and wants to get rid of this person.”
Despite the Thunderbolts* team sharing a dynamic way opposite to the Avengers, David Harbour asserted that off-screen the team was quite close. In the movie, he plays the role of the Red Guardian, also known as Alexei Shostakov. The character was first introduced in the MCU in the movie, Black Widow. Red Guardian is the father of Yelena Belova (Florence Pugh) and Natasha Romanoff (Scarlett Johansson).
Thus, the trailer did make fans curious about how Belova and the Red Guardian reconnect after the events of the 2021 movie and Romanoff’s death in Avengers: Endgame. Additionally, Thunderbolts* brings back characters like the Winter Soldier, Ghost, Taskmaster, and the US Agent, AKA John Walker.
