Don Cheadle has been tapped to star in a new movie called Canyon.
Cheadle was nominated for a Best Actor Academy Award for his performance in 2004’s Hotel Rwanda. He’s also known for playing James “Rhodey” Rhodes/War Machine in the MCU and recently played a character named Sean Charles in Willaim Goldenberg’s Unstoppable, which will be released on the Amazon Prime Video streaming service on January 16, 2025.
Now, Cheadle has been tapped to star in a new action movie, Canyon, which is being written by John Wick’s Derek Kolstad.
What do we know about the Canyon movie starring Don Cheadle?
According to Deadline, the film will take “place over the course of one scorching night” and follows Canyon, “a part-time jazz musician, full-time killer,” who “finds himself the unlikely protector of a young siren pulled into a turf war between feuding crime families.”
The movie is being directed by Colin Tilley, who is best known for directing music videos for artists such as Kendrick Lamar, Justin Timberlake, Justin Bieber, and more.
Cheadle and Kolstad also serve as producers alongside Andrew Kosove, Broderick Johnson, Davis Entertainment’s Jon Davis, and Jeremy Stein.
Kolstad worked on the screenplays for the first three movies in the John Wick franchise: 2014’s John Wick, 2017’s John Wick: Chapter 2, and 2019’s John Wick: Chapter 3 — Parabellum. He also wrote the scripts for 2021’s Nobody starring Bob Odenkirk and the forthcoming sequel, Nobody 2, which hits theaters on August 15, 2025.
Additionally, Kolstad has penned the screenplay for another movie, titled Normal, that will star Odenkirk. That one is being directed by Ben Wheatley and will also star Henry Winkler, Lena Headey, Ryan Allen, Billy MacLellan, Brendan Fletcher, Peter Sinkoda, and Jess McLeod.
A release date for Canyon has not yet been announced by Alcon Entertainment.
