Happy Gilmore 2 to Feature Cameo From Original Movie’s Director

Happy Gilmore 2 is set to feature yet another cameo, with THR reporting that the first film’s director is set to return for the sequel.

Who is the Happy Gilmore director playing in the sequel?

According to THR, Dennis Dugan — who directed the first film, as well as other Adam Sandler projects like Big Daddy, I Now Pronounce You Chuck & Larry, and the Grown Ups films — will appear in the sequel as Doug Thompson, the commissioner of the pro golf tour commissioner.

Dugan played the role in the first film as well, and although he won’t be returning to direct this movie (Kyle Newacheck is behind the camera,) he will still be involved.

Along with Sandler, Julie Bowen and Christopher McDonald will return for Happy Gilmore 2, which just started production. NFL star Travis Kelce and filmmaker Benny Safdie will additionally be in the movie in some capacity, as will superstar music artist Bad Bunny, All Elite Wrestling star Maxwell Jacob Friedman, also known as MJF, and Ben Stiller, who will reprise his role from the original.

The script was written by Sandler and Herlihy, both of whom also serve as producers. Dugan serves as an executive producer alongside Judit Maull, Kevin Grady, David Bausch, and Barry Bernardi.

A release date for Happy Gilmore 2 has not yet been announced by Netflix. The original Happy Gilmore movie is currently streaming on Peacock.

“All Happy Gilmore (Adam Sandler) has ever wanted is to be a professional hockey player,” the description of the 1996 movie reads. “But he soon discovers he may actually have a talent for playing an entirely different sport: golf. When his grandmother (Frances Bay) learns she is about to lose her home, Happy joins a golf tournament to try and win enough money to buy it for her. With his powerful driving skills and foulmouthed attitude, Happy becomes an unlikely golf hero — much to the chagrin of the well-mannered golf professionals.”
