Denzel Washington is ready to step back into the world of The Equalizer.
Speaking to Esquire in a recent interview, Washington revealed that he had spoken with Sony Pictures about doing another movie, and that an Equalizer 4 and 5 were in the works as a result.
What did Denzel Washington say about The Equalizer 4 & 5?
“I told them I would do another Equalizer, and we’re doing four and five,” Washington said, before noting that “More people are happy about that—people love those daggone Equalizers. But I’ve come to realize that the Equalizer films are for me, too, because they’re for the people. They want me to go get the bad guys. ‘We can’t get them, so you go get them.’ And I say, Okay, I’ll get them! Just wait right there. I’ll be right back!”
Due to the news being relatively new, it’s unclear exactly when either Equalizer movies will come out, or what they’ll be about. The Equalizer first began back in 1985, when it was a CBS television series co-created by Michael Sloan and Richard Lindheim.
A movie adaptation was released in 2014 starring Washington. The series has produced two additional sequels, the latest of which was 2023’s The Equalizer 3, which starred Washington, Dakota Fanning, and David Denman.
The Equalizer films generally follow the story of a retired intelligence agent who is thrust into various scenarios where he must get justice on behalf of innocent people.
