Tony Todd Passes Away, Candyman Actor Was 69

Tony Todd, the actor best known for his iconic role in the horror movie Candyman, has died at the age of 69.

Todd’s death was confirmed via his representatives to Deadline, although no statement was made as of now. The legendary actor made his debut in the 1986 movie Platoon, and quickly went on to achieve stardom in his acting career.

After his role in Platoon, Todd starred in the 1990 remake of Night of the Living Dead, and then starred in 1992’s Candyman, which catapulted him into the world of horror, where he became an icon. Throughout his career, Todd would return to the world of horror, starring in the three Candy man sequels (including its 2021 iteration), the Final Destination franchise, Wishmaster, and more.

Outside of films, Todd also acted on and off Broadway, and also appeared in a litany of television shows, including Law & Order, Homicide: Life on the Street, Hercules: The Legendary Journeys, Xena: Warrior Princess, The X-Files, Smallville, Stargate SG-1, Psych, 24, Charmed, and more.

Todd also lent his iconic voice to the world of video games, where he appeared in projects like The Legend of Dragoon, Star Trek: Elite Force II, Half-Life 2: Episode Two, Dota 2, Call of Duty: Black Ops II, Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 (where he starred as Venom), and the upcoming Indiana Jones and the Great Circle.
