Red One: Dwayne Johnson Movie Gets Terrible Rotten Tomatoes & Metacritic Scores

Dwayne Johnson and Chris Evans‘ upcoming movie Red One seems to have not fared well with the critics, with reports indicating that it has received poor scores on both Rotten Tomatoes and Metacritic. Scheduled to release in the United States on November 15, 2024, the Jake Kasdan directorial has a budget of a whopping $250 million.

Negative critic reviews lead to weak Rotten Tomatoes and Metacritic scores

With the holiday season just around the corner, Red One aims to be a fun Christmas action-adventure film. It brings together Johnson and Evans for the first time as a chaotic duo. While there is still a week left until the movie hits the theaters, its score on review websites has stirred discussions on social media.

According to Rotten Tomatoes, the Red One has garnered a score of 33 percent based on 21 reviews. Meanwhile, on Metacritic, the movie attained a score of 37 based on 9 reviews by critics. As previously reported by ComingSoon, Red One received mixed reviews, with many critics describing the movie as mediocre. The movie’s production was also hit with obstacles as it got delayed a year due to the SAG-AFTRA strike.

On the other hand, Dwayne Johnson had a conversation with People where he shared his experience working with Chris Evans. He said, “So many times I laughed. I am notorious for ruining takes. I laugh; it’s just what happens. Chris is a very funny guy. He’s also very talented. And I thought earlier that maybe me and Chris might have some good chemistry. So did he. [And] we did.”

The official logline of Red One on Rotten Tomatoes reads, “After Santa Claus — Code Name: RED ONE — is kidnapped, the North Pole’s Head of Security (Dwayne Johnson) must team up with the world’s most infamous bounty hunter (Chris Evans) in a globe-trotting, action-packed mission to save Christmas.”
