Timothée Chalamet is undoubtedly one of this generation’s biggest stars, with impressive big feature credits under his belt. Apart from starring in the upcoming Bob Dylan biopic A Complete Unknown, Chalamet can also be seen as ping-pong prodigy Marty Reisman in Marty Supreme — and it may be A24‘s most expensive movie ever.
Chalamet has been attached to a number of high-profile projects in the past several years, including Wonka, Don’t Look Up, The French Dispatch, and the two Dune films. The actor has also joined the cast of Marty Supreme as the title character. The movie, set in the 1950s, is a “fictionalized original film” inspired by Reisman’s life.
Why is Marty Supreme A24’s most expensive movie?
Deadline reported that Marty Supreme, which is filming in New York, has a whopping $90 million rumored budget. However, the outlet also noted that the budget might be “exaggerated” and that the film’s more accurate gross might be $70 million.
Even so, the rumored gross still makes Marty Supreme the most expensive movie on sale at this year’s American Film Market and A24’s most expensive production alongside the Dwayne Johnson-led upcoming sports drama, The Smashing Machine. The outlet also reported that the independent entertainment company is planning to produce more “ambitious projects” in the future.
Josh Safdie directs Marty Supreme based on a script he co-wrote with Ronald Bronstein. It also stars Academy Award winner Gwyneth Paltrow, rapper and record producer Tyler, the Creator, Fran Drescher, Penn Jillette, Odessa A’zion, Kevin O’Leary, Abel Ferrara, and Sandra Bernhard.
Chalamet is an award-winning actor who came to worldwide prominence after starring in Luca Guadagnino’s 2017 coming-of-age movie Call Me by Your Name. He also starred in Christopher Nolan’s Interstellar and Greta Gerwig’s Lady Bird and Little Women.
His other credits include Men, Women & Children, The Adderall Diaries, Hot Summer Nights, Beautiful Boy, The King, Bones and All, and more.
