The upcoming Bob the Builder animated movie starring Anthony Ramos has been acquired by Amazon MGM Studios.
In January 2024, it was announced that an animated Bob the Builder film is officially in the works. Ramos has been tapped to voice the titular role, while Jennifer Lopez’s Nuyorican Productions is producing the movie.
Per Deadline, Amazon MGM Studios has now acquired the movie.
According to Deadline, “not all deals are complete,” officially, for the purchase; however, Amazon MGM Studios is said to have beat out Netflix, DreamWorks Animation, and others when it comes to acquiring the project.
What else do we know about the Bob the Builder movie?
It’s not yet immediately clear if the movie will go directly to Amazon Prime Video or if it will get a theatrical release.
“Roberto aka Bob (Ramos) travels to Puerto Rico for a major construction job, takes on issues affecting the island, and digs deeper into what it means to build. Bob’s journey celebrates the vibrant and colorful textures of the Caribbean Latin nations and their people,” the description reads.
Deadline also notes that Lopez is not believed to be in talks for a voiceover role in the film.
Producing the film alongside Lopez are Elaine Goldsmith-Thomas and Benny Medina, along with ShadowMachine’s Alex Bulkley and Corey Campodonico. ShadowMachine is credited as a production company on Guillermo del Toro’s Pinocchio, which was released in 2022.
Kevin McKeon, Ivan Sanchez, and Arturo Thur De Koós are overseeing the project for Mattel, while Natalie Haack Flores is overseeing for Nuyorican.
