Watch Stephen King’s First Written Animated Short Film for Free

Stephen King is a legendary writer who’s tackled every type of publishing medium you can think of. The “King of Horror” has written novels, short stories and novellas, screenplays, comics, essays, and more. This Halloween, the American author has decided to release his first written animated short film which you can now watch for free.

Back in 1968, Stephen King published his short story “Here There Be Tygers” in Ubris magazine before being part of the Skeleton Crew collection in 1985. As a special Halloween treat, Dark Corners Films has released King’s short story as an animated film adaptation called Lily. Back in 2019, Night Frizz Productions came up with a female live-action short film of King’s “Here There Be Tygers.” However, this is the first animated version of the short horror story and King’s debut writing for animation.

Lily is about a third-grader who discovers a scary tiger hiding in the boy’s bathroom. Animator Pete Scalizitti’s hand-drawn animation is in black-and-white with striking green and red to emphasize the 10-minute short’s compelling themes. Kate Siegel, known for starring in husband Mike Flanagan‘s projects, not only directed by also narrated the animated short providing the voices of all of the characters. Families will enjoy Lily as an excellent Halloween animated short, offering stunning visuals and lessons in compassion.

For 2025, Neon has acquired Stephen King’s short story The Monkey under the direction of Longlegs’ Osgood Perkins. Theo James will play twins Hal and Bill who discover their father’s vintage toy monkey that makes terrifying deaths occur. Additionally, the dystopian novel The Running Man, previously adapted in 1987 starring Arnold Schwarzenegger, will get a second remake. With the 2025 remake starring Glen Powell this time around, the dystopian action flick will follow a reality TV show contestant who must survive hitmen to win money.

As Stephen King has volumes of books within his bibliography waiting to be adapted, we know we can count on the award-winning novelist to continue bringing fresh horror stories to the big and small screen.
