Golden Globe winner Idris Elba has officially signed on for the leading role in the upcoming action thriller movie Hammer Down. The project hails from Black Bear and acclaimed producer Charles Roven (Oppenheimer).
Elba’s most recent project was reprising his role as Knuckles in the eponymous Paramount spinoff series. He will once again lend his voice to the character in the upcoming Sonic the Hedgehog 3. Besides Hammer Down, the acclaimed actor is also currently attached to star in the action comedy Heads of State with John Cena, the survival thriller Above the Below, and the adult-animated comedy Fixed with Kathryn Hahn.
What is Hammer Down about?
“Mac (Elba) is the best at what he does, driving a big rig truck across the country with a ‘no questions asked’ policy about the goods he transports,” reads the official synopsis. “When he takes his tenacious teenage daughter along for a job, they are tracked and attacked by a relentless group of criminals that will stop at nothing to secure the consignment he has been entrusted to deliver. Pursued by merciless killers and with the police hot on their trail, Mac and his daughter must work together to prevent the cargo falling into dangerous hands and survive to live another day.”
Hammer Down will be written and directed by Simon Hatt based on his own short film. Hatt was previously James Gunn’s assistant and became a producer on Suicide Squad and Guardians of the Galaxy. In addition to leading the cast, Elba is also producing alongside Gina Summers and Madison Weireter.
