Following her turn in the recent body horror hit The Substance, Margaret Qualley has been tapped to star in a new horror movie titled Victorian Psycho.
The project, which will reportedly start production in March 2025, will be set in 1858 and will follow Qualley’s Winifred Notty who — while she conceals the dark side about herself — has been assigned to teach children in an isolated gothic manor.
Who is directing Victorian Psycho?
Per Deadline’s report, Sanctuary and The Heart Machine filmmaker Zachary Wigon will be directing from a script by Virginia Feito. Victorian Psycho is based on Feito’s upcoming novel of the same name. The movie will also mark Qualley’s next collaboration with Wigon, following 2022’s Sanctuary where she starred alongside Christopher Abbott.
According to the outlet’s description, Victorian Psycho “will follow a young, eccentric governess named Winifred Notty (Qualley) who arrives at the remote gothic manor known as Ensor House. Winifred’s responsibilities include teaching the children table manners and educating them about their family’s history, all whilst hiding her psychopathic tendencies. As Winifred assimilates into life at Ensor House, staff members begin to inexplicably disappear, and the owners of the estate begin to wonder if there is something amiss about their new governess.”
The film will be produced by Longlegs producer Dan Kagan alongside Sebastien Raybaud and Wigon, with Nick Shumaker and Bard Dorros executive producing.
Apart from her starring roles in Sanctuary and The Substance, Qualley is also known for her role of Jill Garvey in the supernatural drama series The Leftovers. She also starred in the two Yorgos Lanthimos-directed features Poor Things and Kinds of Kindness.
Qualley’s additional credits include Drive-Away Dolls, Stars at Noon, My Salinger Year, Seberg, Strange but True, Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, Adam, Native Son, Death Note, and The Vanishing of Sidney Hall.
