Speed 3 Sandra Bullock Comment Addressed by 20th Century Studios: ‘We Are Brave Enough’

20th Century Studios’ Steve Asbell has responded to Sandra Bullock’s comment about a potential Speed 3.

Speed is a 1994 action movie directed by Jan de Bont that stars Keanu Reeves and Bullock. It was followed by a sequel, Speed 2: Cruise Control, in 1997. Bullock reprises her role in Speed 2: Cruise Control, though Reeves did not return.

During a recent 30th anniversary screening of Speed, Bullock said she was unsure whether or not Hollywood would be “brave enough” to make Speed 3.

“It would require a lot from everybody,” she said at the time, via The Hollywood Reporter. “I don’t know if we’re in an industry anymore that’s willing to tolerate it and be brave enough to do it. Maybe I could be wrong. If he can’t make [what’s in his brain] for the audience, then he’s failed it felt like. I don’t know what we could do that would be good enough for the audience.”

What did Steve Asbel say about a potential Speed 3?

Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter, Asbell said that, while there are no firm plans in motion for Speed 3 at the time, the studio is indeed “brave enough” to tackle the potential project.

“Hollywood is brave enough,” he said. “We are brave enough. We are sitting by the phone.”

Asbell continued, “It is one of those last movies that we haven’t remade. And to really be a reason to come back, it’s got to be a great idea and an idea that excites [Bullock and Reeves]. Because that’d be the reason to see it. It’s obviously a really important title for us, but it’s not something we would handle lightly or just try to press them into service. They’d have to be a part of the development of that idea.”

Speed and Speed 2: Cruise Control are both currently streaming on Starz.
