Alien: Romulus 2 is currently being worked on. Fede Álvarez is expected to return in some capacity, while Cailee Spaeny and David Jonsson may also reprise their respective roles as Rain and Andy.
Alien: Romulus was released in United States theaters in August 2024. The seventh film in the Alien franchise (ninth when including the two Alien vs. Predator crossover movies), Alien: Romulus is set between the events of 1979’s Alien and 1986’s Aliens.
Speaking with The Hollywood Reporter, 20th Century Studios’ Steve Asbell confirmed that a sequel idea for Alien: Romulus is currently being worked on and that a deal with Álvarez is expected to be finalized in the near future.
What did Steve Asbell say about Alien: Romulus 2?
“We’re working on a sequel idea now. We haven’t quite closed our deal with Fede, but we are going to, and he has an idea that we’re working on,” he said. “The two survivors, Rain and Andy, played by Cailee Spaeny and David Jonsson, were real highlights of the film. And so I always think of it like, ‘Wow, where do people want to see them go next?’ We know there’s going to be aliens. We know there’s going to be great horror set pieces. But I fell in love with both of them and I want to see what their story is.”
Alien: Romulus also starred Archie Renaux as Tyler, Isabela Merced as Kay, Spike Fearn as Bjorn, and Aileen Wu as Navarro. It is currently available to rent or purchase on digital outlets such as Amazon Prime Video, Apple TV+, and more.
“The sci-fi/horror-thriller takes the phenomenally successful Alien franchise back to its roots: While scavenging the deep ends of a derelict space station, a group of young space colonizers come face to face with the most terrifying life form in the universe.” the synopsis reads.
