Inside Out 3: Pixar Director Believes People Are ‘Open’ to Another, Has Some ‘Great Ideas’

Inside Out 3 could happen.

The first Inside Out movie was released in June 2015. The Pixar Animation Studios and Walt Disney Pictures film was a huge hit, as it earned approximately $858.8 million at the global box office.

Inside Out 2 followed in June 2024. It proved to be an even bigger box office juggernaut, having earned over $1.5 billion globally. Inside Out 2 is currently the highest-grossing film of 2024, the highest-grossing animated movie of all time, and the eighth-highest-grossing film of all time.

Now, Inside Out 2 director Kelsey Mann is saying that there is likely an appetite from the general public for a third movie.

What did Kelsey Mann say about a potential Inside Out 3?

“People are pretty open. They’re open to doing another film,” Mann said when speaking to Empire Magazine. “They want to make sure that we do it justice. But people are excited for seeing Riley’s life — her whole life. They want to see Riley grow up.”

Mann noted that there haven’t been any official talks about Inside 3 yet at Pixar or Disney; however, that’s largely because Mann says he needed a break after the release of Inside Out 2.

“There are so many great ideas that we weren’t able to get into this film, or the original. I really hope those ideas have a home one day,” Mann noted.

While Inside Out 3 hasn’t been officially announced at this time, there is an Inside Out animated miniseries that is in the works. The show is called Dream Productions and will follow two characters voiced by Paula Pell and Richard Ayoade as they explore the inner workings of Riley’s dreams Dream Productions premieres on Disney+ on December 11, 2024.

Both Inside Out and Inside Out 2 are also currently streaming on Disney+.
