In September, Destin Daniel Cretton was in negotiations to direct Spider-Man 4, taking over for Jon Watts, who helmed the previous three Holland-led superhero entries. Cretton is best known for directing Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings. Cretton was tapped to direct Avengers: The Kang Dynasty but exited the project shortly before Jonathan Majors’ firing from Marvel.

The Spider-Man 4 summer start date also allows Holland to work on Christopher Nolan’s next film. Holland will star alongside Matt Damon in Nolan’s follow-up to Oppenheimer, which is expected to shoot in early 2025.
