Moana 2 is currently tracking to have a huge opening weekend at the box office.
Moana 2 will be released in United States theaters this November. A sequel to 2016’s Moana, the film is directed by David Derrick Jr., Jason Hand, and Dana Ldeoux Miller.
Per Deadline, Moana — which opens on a Wednesday, November 27, 2024 — is looking to make over $100 million during the first five days of its release. It’s currently projected to make between $75 to $82 million during the Friday-Sunday portion of those five days.
Moana 2 could have the biggest opening for a movie opening on the Wednesday before Thanksgiving, according to Deadline. The record is currently held by 2013’s Frozen, which made $93.5 million during its opening five-day weekend.
The original Moana, in comparison, made around $82 million during its five-day opening weekend. It went on to gross roughly $249 million domestically and $394 million internationally for a worldwide total of approximately $643 million.

“Moana 2 reunites Moana and Maui three years later for an expansive new voyage alongside a crew of unlikely seafarers. After receiving an unexpected call from her wayfinding ancestors, Moana must journey to the far seas of Oceania and into dangerous, long-lost waters for an adventure unlike anything she’s ever faced,” the synopsis for the movie reads.
The film’s voice cast includes Auliʻi Cravalho as Moana, Dwayne Johnson as Maui, Temuera Morrison as Chief Tui, Nicole Scherzinger as Sina, Rose Matafeo as Loto, David Farne as Kele, Hualālai Chung as Moni, Rachel House as Tala, Awhimai Fraser as Matangi, Gerald Ramsey as Tautai Vasa, and Khaleesi Lambert-Tsuda as Simea.
Christina Chen and Yvett Merino serve as producers on the movie, while Jared Bush and Miller wrote the script. Bush, Johnson, and Jennifer Lee serve as executive producers and the music comes from Abigail Barlow, Emily Bear, Opetaia Foa’i, and Mark Mancina.
