Knives Out 3 is shaping up to be an intense third installment to Rian Johnson’s mystery series, as Josh Brolin teases that the script for the feature is “well written.”
Titled Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery, the upcoming feature — set to stream on Netflix in 2025 — will see the return of Daniel Craig as Benoit Blanc, a role he played in the first two movies. According to Brolin, Knives Out 3 “felt more like the first one.”
What did Josh Brolin say about Knives Out 3?
During a panel at New York Comic Con, Brolin praised Johnson’s writing prowess and his direction, which he says reminds him of Dune and Sicario director Denis Villeneuve. Brolin is one of the ensemble cast members in the said features.
“I loved the acting in both of them [Knives Out and Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery]. I preferred the first one, and the third one felt more like the first one. [Rian] doesn’t come off as this, but he has this incredible control over his set. You know, he just has a major presence that reminds me of Denis, that reminds me of the Cohens, that reminds me of those types of directors. And he’s a great writer,” Brolin told PEOPLE.
On the Knives Out 3 script, Brolin added, “I read it and I was just like, ‘God, this is so well written. We just don’t read things like this anymore.’”
In addition to Brolin and Craig, Knives Out 3 boasts an ensemble cast of Jeremy Renner, Josh O’Connor, Glenn Close, Thomas Haden Church, Andrew Scott, Mila Kunis, Daryl McCormack, Cailee Spaeny, and Kerry Washington. Johnson returned to once again direct the third outing.
“It turned out that it was a cast, a lot of people who I had worked with, a lot of people who I loved and hadn’t met yet, like Andrew Scott and Josh O’Connor, and people like that. Then doing it turned out, I mean, still one of my favorite jobs that I’ve ever had,” said Brolin.
Brolin didn’t give anything much about the character he played, but he said: “I can’t say what I played. It scared me, which I wanted to be scared.”
Brolin is known for his roles in No Country for Old Men, Avengers: Infinity War, Milk, True Grit, American Gangster, Inherent Vice, and more.
