Chris Pratt has revealed that he was “moved to tears” while reading the script for his upcoming Netflix sci-fi adventure movie, The Electric State. Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely, the screenwriting duo behind multiple MCU movies, including Avengers: Infinity War, and Avengers: Endgame, wrote the screenplay based on Simon Stålenhag’s 2018 graphic novel. Anthony and Joe Russo served as directors.
Chris Pratt describes The Electric State script as ‘original’ and ‘a huge swing’
Chris Pratt hailed The Electric State script as “original” and “a huge swing” during an appearance at the Empire Stage on Thursday, October 17, a few hours after a teaser trailer for the Netflix feature became available online.
Pratt disclosed that he had planned a break from work before he read the script and decided to board the project. “It’s not the kind of thing that typically gets made to be a blockbuster-style movie like this. It’s so original, it’s a huge swing,” Pratt elaborated. “I thought that these types of movies might be my last opportunity to be in a big movie like this. I have to look at every opportunity like that. And I did. It’s just such a great story. I was moved to tears reading,” the Jurassic World Dominion actor further stated. (via The Hollywood Reporter)
Joe Russo called the movie “a real passion project.” He added, “We’re very, very excited to bring it to audiences. It’s massive in scale. We love telling very big stories.”
Besides Pratt, The Electric State stars Millie Bobby Brown, Ke Huy Quan, Stanley Tucci, and Giancarlo Esposito. The movie’s impressive voice cast includes Brian Cox, Anthony Mackie, Billy Bob Thornton, and Woody Harrelson.
Set in a retro-futuristic world, the movie revolves around a young woman named Michelle (Brown), who embarks on an epic journey with Keats (Pratt), a drifter, and a robot, in search of her long-lost brother.
The Electric State is set to be released on Netflix on March 14, 2025.
