Teens Sneaking into Terrifier 3 Boosted The Wild Robot Ticket Sales

The Wild Robot received a box office bump due to teens sneaking into Terrifier 3.

Terrifier 3 was released in United States theaters last weekend. The ultra-gory horror flick is directed by Damien Leone and stars David Howard Thorton as Art the Clown.

So far, Terrifier 3 has made around $28.6 million at the global box office, making it a massive hit for Cineverse as the film has an estimated $2 million budget.

How is Terrifier 3 helping The Wild Robot’s ticket sales?

According to The Hollywood Reporter, The Wild Robot’s ticket sales are also benefitting from Terrifier 3. The Wild Robot made around $14 million at the box office this past weekend, which is an approximate 25.9 percent drop from the weekend prior. That is considered to be a very good hold for the third week after a movie’s release.

“The Hollywood Reporter has learned that theaters carrying the film, including the three biggest circuits (AMC, Cinemark, and Regal), are treating Terrifier 3 as if it were an R-rated film, and trying to turn away anyone who is 17 or younger if they aren’t accompanied by a parent or guardian,” the article reads. “Two distribution sources noted over the weekend that DreamWorks Animation and Universal’s The Wild Robot saw a noticeable bump, and speculate that teenagers and tweens bought tickets to that film and then sneaked into Terrifier 3. The same trend continued on Monday’s Indigenous Peoples Day holiday.”

The Wild Robot was released in United States theaters on September 27, 2024. It has so far grossed approximately $154.5 million at the global box office. The voice cast of the movie, which is directed by Chris Sanders and is based on the 2016 novel of the same name by Peter Brown, includes Lupita Nyong’o, Pedro Pascal, Kit Connor, Catherine O’Hara, Bill Nighy, Stephanie Hsu, Mark Hamill, Matt Berry, and Ving Rhames.

Terrifier 3 is technically unrated and is expected to be the highest-grossing unrated film of all time. The Wild Robot, meanwhile, is rated PG for “action/peril and thematic elements.”

Both The Wild Robot and Terrifier 3 are currently playing in United States theaters.
