Freakier Friday Release Date Set, First Look Photo Released

Disney has just announced the release date for Freakier Friday, a direct sequel to the Jamie Lee Curtis and Lindsay Lohan-led 2003 fantasy comedy Freaky Friday.

Directed by Nisha Ganatra (Late Night), the upcoming sequel will see the return of Curtis and Lohan as Tess and Anna Coleman, respectively. The original film followed Tess and her rebellious daughter Anna as they woke up one day involuntarily living in each other’s bodies.

The sequel, which will pick up years after the events of the original movie, will revolve around the adult Anna dealing with another chaotic body-swapping situation involving her 14-year-old daughter named Harper.

When is the Freakier Friday release date?

Disney announced that Freakier Friday, previously under the working title Freaky Friday 2, will arrive in theaters on August 8, 2025.

The original film, directed by Mark Waters, received positive reviews and was a box office success. Although there have been long-running rumors on the internet about a second Freaky Friday film, it was only confirmed to be happening this year.

“Anna now has a daughter of her own and a soon-to-be stepdaughter. As they navigate the myriad challenges that come when two families merge, Tess and Anna discover that lightning might indeed strike twice,” the synopsis Freakier Friday reads.

In addition to Lohan and Curtis, other returning stars include Chad Michael Murray as Jake, Mark Harmon as Ryan, Christina Vidal Mitchell as Maddie, Haley Hudson as Peg, Rosalind Chao as Pei-Pei, Lucille Soong as Pei-Pei’s mom, and Stephen Tobolowsky as Mr. Bates.

They will be joined by Freaky Friday newcomers Maitreyi Ramakrishnan, Manny Jacinto, Julia Butters, and Sophia Hammons.

Freakier Friday hits theaters on August 8, 2025. The original film is available to stream on Disney+
