Speed 3: Sandra Bullock Reveals What’s Needed for Sequel to Happen

With Hollywood continuously reviving old franchises, Sandra Bullock has considered the possibility of Speed 3. While 1994’s original Speed became a classic, Speed 2: Cruise Control couldn’t recreate the magic at the box office. But Bullock provided an update on what would be needed for Speed 3 to happen with her and Keanu Reeves.

Sandra Bullock says Speed 3 ‘would require a lot from everybody’

Reeves and Bullock reunited with filmmaker Jan de Bont to celebrate Speed’s 30th anniversary. A special screening took place at American Cinematheque at Egyptian Theatre’s Beyond Fest, where Bullock opened up on Speed 3’s potential prospects.

As per The Hollywood Reporter, she said, “The geriatric version. It won’t be fast.” She then turned her attention to de Bont and continued:

“All these things happened because the crazy man in the greenish jacket over there. He’s so soft and gentle today and I’m like, that’s not the man I remember. But he’s the man who put the energy and the idea together, knew what the audience wanted and demanded it from everyone and everyone stepped up to play it. So what would that movie be that would make Jan’s brain and brilliance happy?”

Lastly, she expressed her thoughts on whether Hollywood is “brave enough” for another Speed sequel saying:

“It would require a lot from everybody. I don’t know if we’re in an industry anymore that’s willing to tolerate it and be brave enough to do it. Maybe I could be wrong. If he can’t make [what’s in his brain] for the audience, then he’s failed it felt like. I don’t know what we could do that would be good enough for the audience.”

Besides Bullock, Keanu Reeves also showed interest in making Speed 3 happen earlier this year. In an appearance on the 50mph podcast, Reeves mentioned that he and Bullock will “knock it out of the park” if Speed 3 were to happen. He also added that he’d love to work with Bullock again after she suggested the idea. But, their on-screen reunion for Speed 3 or any other project is yet to become a reality.
