The Motion Picture Association (MPA) rating for Bong Joon-ho’s Mickey 17 has been revealed.
Mickey 17 will be released in United States theaters this coming January. Directed by Parasite’s Bong Joon-ho, the sci-fi movie stars Robert Pattinson, Naomi Ackie, and more.
Mickey 17 has officially been given an R-rating from the MPA, per FilmRatings. It contains “violent content, language throughout, sexual content, and drug material.”
What is Mickey 17 about?
“From the Academy Award-winning writer/director of Parasite, Bong Joon Ho, comes his next groundbreaking cinematic experience, Mickey 17,” the official synopsis reads. “The unlikely hero, Mickey Barnes (Robert Pattinson) has found himself in the extraordinary circumstance of working for an employer who demands the ultimate commitment to the job… to die, for a living. “
Along with Pattinson (The Batman) and Ackie (Blink Twice), the film stars Steven Yeun (Minari), Toni Collette (Hereditary), Mark Ruffalo (Poor Things), and more.
“Mickey 17 is someone who has the lowest expectations of his life, and yet the world keeps pushing those expectations, to the point where he has a job that tortures him every day,” Pattinson previously said of the movie, via Entertainment Weekly, at CinemaCon earlier this year. “And then 18 comes along, and he’s got frontal lobe damage and no self-control, libido out of control. It’s like playing an evil brother or twin.”
Mickey 17 is based on a 2022 novel, Mickey7, written by Edward Ashton. Dede Gardner, Jeremy Kleiner, Bong Joon-ho, and Dooho Choi produce the movie, while Brad Pitt, Jesse Ehrman, Peter Dodd, and Marianne Jenkins serve as executive producers.
In addition to Parasite, Bong Joon-ho’s previous filmography includes 2000’s Barking Dogs Never Bite, 2003’s Memories of Murder, 2006’s The Host, 2009’s Mother, 2013’s Snowpiercer, and 2017’s Okja.
Mickey 17 will be released in United States theaters on January 31, 2025, from Warner Bros. Pictures.
