It’s Chris Pratt & Millie Bobby Brown vs. Robots in The Electric State First Look

The first images from Joe and Anthony Russo’s The Electric State have been released.

The Electric State is a new sci-movie coming to Netflix in 2025 that is directed by the Russo Brothers. It stars Millie Bobby Brown, Chris Pratt, and more.

Vanity Fair has shared the first images from the movie, which sees Brown and Pratt’s character facing off against a group of animatronic robots, led by Planters mascot Mr. Peanut, that are searching for free will.

“These robots had the most benign appearance possible, and they end up feeling that they’re being mistreated and have a desire to be treated as equals with humans, which leads to a war,” Joe Russo said about the film’s plot. “And now you have this strange dichotomy playing out where these very pleasing and palatable service bots are now trying to kill you.”

What else do we know about The Electric State?

Stranger Things’ Brown is playing Michelle, a woman who is searching for her brother who was previously assumed to be dead, in The Electric State, while Pratt portrays a veteran-turned-trucker named Keats. Anthony Mackie is voicing a construction robot named Herman, while the voice of Mr. Peanut comes from Woody Harrelson.

The cast also includes Ke Huy Quan as Dr. Amherst, Stanley Tucci as Ethan Skate, and Giancarlo Esposito as Colonel Bradbury, while Jenny Slate, Brian Cox, and Alan Tudyk also voice robots in the film.

The Electric State is based on a 2018 graphic novel of the same name by Simon Stålenhag. The screenplay was written by Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely.

The Russo Brothers said that acquiring the rights for Harrelson to voice Mr. Peanut took some time, as Planters’ parent company Hormel Foods was initially worried about how the character would be portrayed. Ultimately, Hormel Foods came around to the idea.

“They gave us creative reign,” Joe Russo said. “It was a delicate balance because you don’t want to overwhelm the movie with commercialism or a level of reality that pulls you out of the fable, but we felt like Mr. Peanut fit the tone of the design of the other robots, and we thought it funny that he was essentially their Atticus Finch. The most well-spoken and thoughtful of the robots is a peanut with a cane and a top hat.”

The Electric State will be released on Netflix in 2025.
